I live in QLD ive been here my whole life and ozzies love tourists so dont worry about our slang/you language most people will just find it cute/funny. When are you coming? If you are coming in Summer..yeah pack light, bring swimmers (bathers) bring a few pairs , bring comfy shoes (you will prob do alot of walking) but do bring some warm clothes too, you may not need them but our weather is wierd to say the least.
As for the aware of part.. id say make sure you wear sun cream cuz its gets HOT and the sun is not forgiving the last thing you want on holiday is to be sun burnt..
Make sure u make a trip up to the Great Barrier Reef its the most amazing thing you will ever see! Do it while you close! Cheers

Light layers!
Sydney and Melbourne weather can be very changeable! The solution is to wear maybe two tops and bring a jacket or cardigan, and jeans are always practical for travel.

Most of all, have fun! =)

I agree with the above. Australia is actually 40% tropical, so in the north you will need light loose clotheing and be aware of sun protection and insect protection. Tasmania can get very cold so you'll need cold weather gear particularly since it is winter at the moment. Melbourne at the moment is cool to cold but famous for being changeable. If you do anything in the bush ( forrest etc) then good boots will reduce risks associated with snakes, since the majority of all bites occurr on the foot or lower leg, however thats a rare problem, and even more rare in winter. for normal touristy activities, I suggest comfortable shoes, some light rainwear, a hat, a swimsuit, camera, and tidy clothes for nightlife activities. Enjoy Australia and welcome! Try also

Depending on where you are going but since you didn't say pack for all 4 seasons.
Have a read about Australian slang in case you may be offended about something but wasn't meant in that way.

Insect repellent and sunblock a must.

May also want to have a quick read here -

it really depends on when and what part you are coming to Australia is a big country.
right now we are in winter so is wet and cold but not cold cold.
if you go north of our country beware of crocs if it says don't swim well don't don't go in the out back alone we are a peace full country so not much to worry about as us Aussies say "you'll be right mate"
enjoy your stay in the land down under

oh and up the duff means you are pregnant
you will get use to our slang don't be frighten to ask what dose it mean

I just want to clarify that "I'm am stuffed" means that you have eaten too much and am full, not pregnant. There is nothing special really to pack, just what you would normally take for other places but be aware that temperatures can vary a lot from north to south.
