Nicholas R i am thinking of going to australia for 6 months or so next year, and was wondering if i needed any special documents?? (visa)
also, would i need to take a medical or go through these kind of processes for just a short stay as apposed to emigrating??
thanks
I spent four months there back in 2001 and I needed a holiday visa (I’m a US citizen). Not sure if that has changed or not — your best bet is to check the embassy website. Have fun!
You will need a visa go to
Unless you were a New Zealander, you will need a visa. If you’re on a short visit you won’t need any medical test, unless you are above 70 years old. Anyone over 70 will need medical test and health insurance.
With a tourist visa, normally you’ll be given a 3 month stay with possibility of extension which can be applied from the Immigration Dept or you could also leave the country going somewhere closer like NZ, Fiji or Bali and then return - you will get another 3 more months.
Also, at the airport they will ask to see if you have a return ticket to your country and proof of sufficient fund to support yourself whilst in Australia. Otherwise they have the right to send you home straight away.
If you plan to work to support yourself, you will need a working holiday visa (depending on which country you’re from). Check out at
