What will it take for India to overpower Australia in cricket?
AJ asked:
A population of over 1 billion and a lot of its citizens are hard working and talented people.
A population of over 1 billion and a lot of its citizens are hard working and talented people.
But somehow beating Australia still remains a near impossible task in cricket.
Australia is very good in sports, not just cricket but in olympics too — they win lots of golds, silvers and bronze too. For India olympic medal is next to impossible.
Australia also played in soccer world cup 2006 — India can’t play in soccer world cup for a very long time.
So despite such large population, skill and talent why India cannot compete with Australia in sports?

sign Barry Bonds.
Dude your logic is extremely flawed
what does population have anything to do with this?
The United States has a population of over 300 million people and Croatia has a population of about 4 million people
Yet Croatia beats United States every time in soccer…Croatia is ranked like no. 3 while the US is not even in top 25
1)communication
2)team work
3)skill
4)trust(in themselves)
5)determination
6)And to prey for bloody rain…
they have to play aggressively
India has a very large population and Talent I agree….
But the Indian government doesn’t focus that much on sports… The only sport that they bother about is cricket…. For eg. the money the govt. gave the Indian hockey team when they won the Asian Hockey tournament is very meager when compared to what they gave to the cricket team when they won the World Cup in Twenty20…… And even in cricket the only focus is on the present players, almost no steps are taken towards scouting for young talented players…..
But I can’t blame the govt., see India is a developing country and most of the funds are utilized for developing the country and the bellies of the govt officials. So the sports ministry just doesn’t get enough funds…. Take Australia for instance, it’s a developed country and most of the educational institutions have their own track, football fields, etc,. but in india not all the schools even have proper toilets…. this is my view…..
Of course population has something to do with this.. with 20 million people, obviously it’s less talent per a certain amount of people.
For that argument about USA and Croatia, well US can beat Croatia at almost every other sport, the only reason Croatia may be better than the US at soccer/football is because they choose to focus on it 100%, similar to the way India focuses on cricket but still puts up a pathetic display.
India is also quite corrupt, and a lot of the time, you get on the team/stay on the team based on how well you know the manager/how rich you are. In Australia, it’s more along the lines of how talented you are.
The interest in tennis in India is picking up, mainly because of people like Sania Mirza. If India had a gold medalist in track or something, like an event like the 1600 (99.99999% chance this will never happen), then maybe that would cause a “running boom” in India. Just need a few athletes to go out there in the various sports to start the boom.
Change of plans,Change in batting order…if irfan pathan comes one down and then dhoni and then dravid i think that will be much better ,,,pathan is all rounder …he can play well if chance is given,..
all eleven players should be people like Sreesanth to put pressure on Aussies , their own medicine injected to them
talent is not the issue, its a mindblock , that Aussies have created
beating indian australia is very simple but we have to beat them them in our mind then on the ground while entering in the ground criketers should have a positive approach to the game if they players play the game positively and braely india could easily win over australia this wordings should be given by the captain to the players so that their self confidence increase and as a suppoter we should have confidence in the team
A corruption free system.
That’s the only thing required i think. We have the money,we have the talent, we have all resources.
Just need to work on some basic things.
Team selection.
From what I hear, the Indian team is not just chosen on merit, but who you can slip some money to and who you know.
In Australia, it is 100% based on player merit.
That is why zimbabwe has gone down the tube.
The point about population …… of course it is about population, but not the total number of citizens …… the number of people engaged in the sport. By all rights, India should absolutely thrash everybody else.
And for the record …. nobody will ever beat Australia in the cricket. We are too good.
